TRINITY METHODIST CHURCH PLATT BRIDGE

Started by: admin (1646)

Is this church still standing and in use? If it isn't? can someone give the location of where it was. I have recently obtained some old cine films and this church is shown on a few of the films, i.e. Walking Days and Weddings One wedding in particular taken 1930's Between GLADYS RIGBY and JAMES LIPTROT I think his family had a coach firm? (It appears to be a big wedding) I'm sure if there are any family around, they would love to see this film clip.

Liptrots had a coach firm, but they were from Bamfurlong, there is a Methodist Church in Bamfurlong, which I was {{forced}} to walk for on Walking Days in the early 1960s.

FM No, don't think that's the church. The church on the film has a long path from the road to the church entrance.

There is a James Liptrot and Gladys Rigby married locally in 1938, in 1939 were they were living in Nevile St , Platt Bridge when he was a 'coal retailer'. There is a very likely match (same years of birth) they are the same name couple that moved to Hindley and are buried together in Hindley Cemetary in 1989 & 1996. I just found another James Liptrot that sound like the 'coach firm', Quote 'James liptrot of 111 Walthew Lane, platt bridge, died 3 nov 1963 at Sunnyside, Knowsely Road Southport, probate to Kenneth Liptrot , haulage contractor and Francis Elgin married woman'

Pewfall Thanks fir that info. That must be the couple There is an image of a LIPTROT coach on the film so I presumed that the groom was the owner? However stood beside the coach, is a man with a carnation. So maybe LIPTROT coach's were relatives. It was a BIG DO and the brides father is wearing a black Top Hat so it wasn't a cheap Wedding ..Just noticed on the film opposite the church entrance. There are two shops HILDA FORSTER and ? DAVIES at 127? It appears to be a busy main road I'll see if I can post a STILL from the film
